How to Avoid Panic When Writing Grooms Speeches

Date: 08 February, 2010

Grooms speeches can often be one of the most important speeches of the entire wedding ceremony. They can certainly be one of the longest as they involve thanking all of the people involved in the organizing, planning, and execution of both the wedding ceremony and reception, as well as both sets of parents and relatives.

Great care should be taken not to miss people out or give undue prominence to individuals where it is not due, or you risk offending people. The last thing you want is for someone who has devoted a lot of their time to helping out in the run-up to the big day to be made to feel as if all their efforts were in vain because they did not get a mention in the grooms speech. Or for someone who has contributed in a big way to the special occasion to receive a less enthusiastic thank you than someone who did relatively little.

Regardless of the amount of people that need thanking, you should take great care not to sound as if you are simply reading from a shopping list. You should try to be sincere and humorous at the same time, and attempting to achieve this delicate balancing act is not easy I can assure you. I hope you start to realise the challenge that lies ahead.

Giving the speech is often a daunting activity in itself as you may not be experienced or comfortable with speaking in front of a large audience. And this is no ordinary audience comprising of strangers that you will never encounter again, some of these guests you will be seeing again on a regular basis.

Unfortunately this speech of your life comes at the end of probably the busiest period of your life. You have had a wedding to organize, you are trying to finalise the ceremony, the reception, the honeymoon, the transport, the flowers, purchase the rings, etcetera, etcetera. Need I go on?

Writing your grooms speech will undoubtedly be somewhere on your 'to do list'. Unfortunately with so many things vying for your attention this gets left, and left, and left. At some point you realize that you cannot keep on putting it off, and you should take action. However a typical groom comes to this conclusion rather late in the day!

This realization typically leads to an initial panic, and you really don’t want this to happen to you. After all the time, capital, and heartache you have invested on your special day you do not want to incur the wrath of your new bride plus the rest of the wedding guests by cutting corners on the most important speech of your life.

So forget the inferior speeches available on the internet, which your guests will already have heard before anyway. What you need is high quality, professionally written grooms speeches and toasts that you will be able to easily and quickly personalize to suit your own circumstances. This will provide you with a unique speech that will be received with enthusiasm by your bride, your new in-laws, and indeed all of your wedding guests. -- iS
