Distinguishing High and Low Quality Bling Accessories

Date: 04 March, 2010

Flashy, elaborate pieces have become a popular style in jewelry. Teenagers and adults are all frantically searching for the newest crystal embellished "bling" accessories - so much so, that items are even being made just for babies. Unlike real diamonds, bling jewelry is cheap, allowing it to be worn and enjoyed without worrying about losing it or having to keep it locked up in a safe.

Crystal designs, also known as bling, are now becoming the hottest trend. Thanks to the countless celebrities who have been spotted in blinged out items, now everyone is keen to have and wear their own bling accessories.

These days, one can find crystal designs on mobile phones, clothing, office supplies and more. While there are many varieties available, not all bling accessories are created equal. For this reason, it's always best to learn the difference between high quality and low quality bling before making a purchase.

Crystal embellished accessories (otherwise known as bling) are made using dazzling rhinestones and Swarovski hot fix crystals. The highest quality products use a strong adhesive glue so the crystals are unlikely to detach from the garment or item.

Even with the strongest adhesive however, sometimes crystals may fall off. To offset this problem, high quality sellers usually include some type of warranty with their products, or may include extra crystals with items, and instructions on how to apply them just in case. Check with the seller before buying to make sure they are using genuine Swarovski crystals, which have superior cuts and refract the light beautifully to resemble actual diamonds.

Rhinestones, which are a cheaper but still reasonable alternative, also make great bling since these gems also resemble diamonds.

Crystals and rhinestones are generally made using lead crystal. The greater the content of lead crystal, the better the light refraction, and therefore higher the quality. Stones come in many colors including: clear, emerald, ruby, amethyst, orange, rose and gold.

Dazzling rhinestones and Swarovski crystals can be used on mobile phone covers, shirts, hats, staplers, card holders, calculators, pens, ash trays, jewelry boxes and more.

To ensure you are getting high-quality crystals, pay particular attention to how the product looks. If buying online, pictures should be provided that give an accurate depiction of the product. Bling accessories or jewelry should use current fashion styles, and the construction should be excellent. For example, if buying an embellished shirt, no trace of glue should be visible around the stones, the lettering (if any) should be in proportion to each other, and accurately spaced.

The shirt should also be of good-quality, with no visible loose strings or fading on the garment. Though the embellishment is the most important part of the shirt, it will be difficult to enjoy wearing your new garment if it fades or rips.

High quality bling accessories will also use a higher density of rhinestones and crystals. Look for items covered in stones which offer a brilliant shine even from a distance. Low quality designs include only small batches of crystals and inferior cuts, making the sparkle less noticeable. Though higher quality bling does cost more, it is also much more durable since the crystals are adhered with better glue, and therefore more likely to stay attached.

In the case of rhinestone calculators and other electronic bling accessories, the electronics also need to be of high quality. In this way, they can be admired for their beauty but can also be used for their functional purpose.
