Love Potions - Aphrodisiac Beverages For an Evening of Romance

Date: 14 March, 2010

Romantic evenings never seem complete without a beverage. Various drinks have been used by different cultures across the globe and throughout time essentially as love potions. Sometimes it is the symbolic value of a certain drink that creates an atmosphere of romance, such as champagne. Other times it is how the beverage is used that makes it erotic. In still other cases, the drink may actually have a chemical effect on the body that is conducive to an evening of romance and seduction. This article will give you a whirlwind tour of the various ways drinks can be used as aphrodisiacs.

Alcohol, especially champagne and wine, is famous for its use in romantic candlelit dinners. For some people, however, wine isn't an option. They may have religious convictions against alcohol, or be recovering alcoholics, or perhaps simply don't like the taste of alcohol. This article, therefore, will focus on romantic but non-alcoholic beverages.

Romantic Drinks

One of the reasons champagne and wine are so popular with romantic evenings is that they are both considered to be classy, formal, fancy, expensive beverages that are reserved for special, pleasant occasions, such as holidays, celebrations, and wedding toasts.

First, a romantic beverage should be something unique and special that is generally served only on special occasions, and preferably something that is associated with happy memories for the couple. Even a rare fruit juice or soft drink can fulfill these requirements, especially if it is something the couple drank together back in their courtship days.

Second, your choice should show that you spent some extra thought, effort, time, and money to find just the right beverage for the situation. Men and women both find such romantic gestures touching and endearing. Homemade beverages made from scratch are especially good at performing this task.

Winter Drinks

On a cold night, steaming mugs full of a hot beverage sipped together on the sofa while cuddling beneath a blanket is the epitome of coziness. Hot chocolate is the favorite choice, especially when its made from scratch with real milk, sugar, and cocoa. Other options include tea (your partner's favorite flavor), homemade chai, eggnog, or mulled cider, or coffee.

Never forget the power of coffee. Coffee contains lots of caffeine, a stimulant known for providing an energy boost. On a cold, dark winter's night, your partner may come home tired after a long day at work and want nothing more than a little television and some sleep. If so, give them a mug of strong, gourmet coffee, some cuddling under the sofa blanket, another mug of coffee, and a neck rub. Your partner may suddenly find that they do indeed have the energy for additional activities, after all.

Summer Drinks

When your partner is hot and tired from the sun and humidity, handing them a tall, sweating glass of an ice-cold beverage will seem like a godsend and tug at their heart strings. Iced tea or coffee, homemade lemonade or sweet tea, fruit juice mixes, or a normally forbidden non-diet cola are all excellent choices.

Bring a glass for yourself and include straws. How you choose to sip from your straw should make it clear to your partner what's on your mind. You can even splurge on the calories for a milkshake-just make sure it's in a large glass and served with two straws. That makes a kiss almost inevitable.

Should your choice of beverage assist in a successful seduction and you retreat to the bedroom for some air conditioning, remember to bring your empty glass with you. The ice cubes could come in handy in a number of surprising and creative ways. -- iS
