Lladro Figurines – A Truly Great Porcelain Collectable

Date: 28 May, 2008

Right from 1951, the Lladro brothers have been making some of the most magnificent porcelain figurines that Europe and the world have ever seen. It was in the small self contained town of Almácera, next to the historic city of Valencia situated on the East Coast of Spain where the brothers started to create their art.

From the beginning people couldn’t get enough of the brother’s work, even if they were only selling it locally. However it wasn’t long before they weren’t just selling it locally, soon the whole world wanted Lladro. Nowadays Lladro ships its figurines to more than 120 countries across the face of the world and what was once the brother’s small workshop has now become the world renowned Porcelain City, with thousands of employees and covering hundreds of thousands of square feet. It is now accepted as one of the greatest and most famed porcelain making factories in the world.

Lladro porcelain figures are adored as much for their love and humanity, say customers, but also for the coveted craftsmanship obvious in their creation. They look to the brighter side of life. Depicting everyday events, or to more mysterious events of creation.

The Lladro magazine is still expanding in size each year, with fresh figures continually being created and added to the family, also the special, limited edition items that are grabbed up by customers before the pieces even see their way out of Porcelain City.

Seeing Lladro figures for the first time, you are amazed by their delicate nature and caught by the subtle colours that provoke memories of another, different time. There is an attractive nature to the stance and looks of the figurines, but definitely not in their creation and attention to detail.

Every individual figure passes on a story, like the “Pursued Deer” who crashes widely through the undergrowth to escape capture. The sweet smile on the face of the “Unconditional Love” figurine. A connection between mother and child that cannot be conveyed simply in words. Or the innocence of the face of the “Can't Wait” as the puppy, excitedly opens the present before him. Behind each Lladro figurine there is always a story, often originating from some story from the early lives of one of the three Lladro brothers.

The massive Lladro collection also includes huge flaming dragons and many other mystical figurines, a wonderfully life like sporting section, religious figures, figurines based on the wonderful Asia, Africa and India, animals and the always popular Christmas section.

Some of the most collectable pieces are figurines that have been produced exclusively for Lladro events, where the figurines has been personally signed on the base by one of the Lladro or by one of their offspring.

The Lladro figurines make the perfect gift for any occasion giving just the right message with effortless grace and beauty. The figurines are brilliant to collect, to be displayed and to be cherished. Being passed down from one generation to the next, they have become highly valued family heirlooms prized by porcelain collectors and connoisseurs the world over.
