Winter Warmers - The Benefits Of Winter Football Clothing

Date: 21 November, 2008

There's something magical about attending a football match at your home stadium on a cold frosty winter night. Despite the freezing temperatures, the avid fan still grabs his football shirt and throws it on over another warmer jumper, before placing his football jacket over the top. Wrapping his scarf around his neck, he then pulls on his team's woolly hat and sets off to the stadium to show his support, through his wardrobe of team colours and emblems. As well as offering team encouragement, football clothing also has an added bonus of helping to fight off the frostbite during these chilly winter months.

With Christmas just weeks away, football hats, jackets and scarves make the perfect gift. Sitting in the stadium, surrounded by chilly northerly winds or flickering droplets of rain, what better way to keep you protected from natures elements than to wrap up in a woolly hat, scarf and waterproof jacket?

Acting as a form of 'uniform' at any football game, team branded rain jackets are an excellent source of protection against the British weather. They tend to come in quality nylon water repellent fabric and include breathable mesh lining and often a concealed hood, to protect from the rain. Lined with pockets and in a wide range of sizes, rain jackets allow for extra layers underneath so you can stay dry as well as warm.

Another popular choice of football clothing is undoubtedly headwear. The most frequently worn are the woollen beanies, although baseball caps are also a popular choice. The great thing about giving a beanie or a cap as a gift is that one size fits all so you don't have to worry about getting the wrong size. Woollen beanies are flexible and allow for stretching and baseball caps have an adjustable strap so they can be worn by children and adults alike.

Football branded woollen scarves are perhaps the most popular form of football clothing, worn by men, women, children, adults as well as the fashion conscious and the fashion unconscious. They are easy to throw on over your outfit and can clearly be seen by other fans, demonstrating which side your dedication lies. Like the woollen beanies, scarves fit all sizes and shapes and also come in one size. They are practical and also excellent for keeping you warm not just during football matches, but all winter long.

While the fashion conscious argue that football shirts should only be worn during football games, winter football clothing challenges this argument, offering a practical set of fashion accessories to keep away the winter chills and show team loyalty all at the same time.
